Batala Atenas

It is an international group of percussion instruments that moves in Brazilian style. Their music was born in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. It has its roots in the traditional African percussion and is highlighted with a heavy dose of Brazilian samba, thus enhancing every carnival event in Brazil. They play this music in 4 types of drums, creating a powerful and dynamic sound that unleashes the senses. The intense rhythm combined with dynamic choreographies and the feast of colors in costumes create an audio-visual experience that few people forget.

In 2010, the Batalá Group was set up in Athens, transferring the rhythms of Brazil to Greece. Today Batalá have reached the 4 teams in Greece, Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion and Chania. They count more than 1500 people worldwide. A total of 34 bands in 16 countries and 4 continents carry the authentic Brazilian music and culture to the wider audience.

Due to the unique spectacle they offer, they have hosted up to date many cultural events, festivals and concerts throughout Greece and abroad. Amongst the most important are the participation in the Olympic Flame for the Olympic Games RIO 2016, the Special Olympics Ending Ceremony at Kallimarmaro, the Classical Athens Marathon, the Salvador Carnival in Brazil attended every year, the Notting Hill Carnival in London, the the Lavage de la Madeleine in Paris, the Lavagem do Bonfim in Brazil and the Brazilian Day in New York. Great moments of collaboration with well-known artists such as Imam Baildi, Locomondo, Dreimas, Katerina Polemi, Petro Kourti, Drumvoice, Miranda Verulli, Mc Yinka, Fabio Cruz, Lula Valois, Bateria do Quilombo, Paranaue, Expert Medicine, Evnus, Lady Faye and many others. The Batalá count on their record six (6) recordings, with the latter recording in Salvador in February 2016 where they traveled for the third time to take part in the Salvador carnival playing with one of the most famous Bloco Afro, Cortejo Afro.

They participated in the 100th Anniversary Meet Market at Technopolis City of Athens, 31st of March & 1st of April, 2018.
