Sparta Astronomical Association

The Astronomy Association of Sparta was founded by a team of experienced amateur astronomers active in the fields of observational astronomy, astrophotography, star obscuracies and variable-photometry of stars. The aim of their Union is to spread amateur astronomy in the wider region of Sparta, through the organization of events, excursions and meetings, as well as the briefing and training their members on a wide range of astronomical activities.

The Society aims to give the modern man a passion that will take him out of the routine of everyday life, which will prompt him to raise his eyes high and meet a world distant yet enchanting. Dealing with astronomy may seem difficult in the eyes of a beginner. But it is not so. The experienced members will guide him in his first steps in this fascinating world. They will help him choose his telescope and recommend useful bibliography.

The activities of the Sparta Astronomical Association cover a wide range of topics such as observation of the sky, astrophotography, visual observation and digital recording of variable stars, recording of star obscurations from asteroids, recording of meteor rains, systematic recording of mutual phenomena between satellites of planets Zeus and Saturn and so on…
