So Santo, tell us about yourself.
My name is George Garavelas, otherwise known as Santoner Rpz.Β I live in Athens in “the new world” (Neos Kosmos) with my parents and two dogs.Β I love music and the arts in general.Β I’ve been djing almost ten years now and have no plan to stop because it truly is something magical for me.
It is my form of expression and the presentation of my aesthetic, a journey of discovery, of sound and rhythm and a game of sorts – to create an order and flow which guides the listener to another dimension.
What is the inspiration behind your work?Β Who are some people/ what are some projects that have inspired you?
Inspiration for what I practice as art, djing, is something that I draw from the environment in which I live.
While I admire many artists in terms of music, I cannot single out one in particular.Β My taste and range is as broad as the sounds, artists and people that influence me.
Whats your experience of the Meet Market?
I have been part of the Meet Market since the start, because of deep friendship (we are like family) with Alison and John.Β I participate in the Meet Market sometimes as a dj, other times as an active member in the organization helping out with various jobs and working at the info/cash point, and other times as a guest.
To me, The Meet Market is a celebration, a happy event every month where I can meet my loved ones and find original gifts for me and my family.Β I got only love for this initiative because its essence is about bringing together creative people, and this in turn gives birth to joy and hope.
Where do you realistically see yourself in 5 years? If you didn’t have to be realistic, where would you dream to see yourself in 5 years?
Although I live in the present without making distant plans, I imagine that in five years from now I’ll still be in Athens, perhaps in a house with a yard and a DIY studio to house my record collection, my equipment and some musical instruments. This is also my dream.Β Overall I’m satisfied with my life, and I hope to continue like this, for the next 5 years and beyond.
Whats the one tool in your workshop that you cant live without?
The tool that I cannot part with as a dj is my mixer.Β It is the main tool I use right now, to teek my music’s aesthetic and flow to the listener.Β My other key tool is of course my heart.
Whats the strangest job you have every had?
I have done several jobs and I can say that some of them were strange.Β I have worked as a waiter at a young age, distributor, barbecue cooker, parking attendant, and at this stage of my life, as a railroad official for the last thirteen years.Β I like jobs that have to do with the public and directly relating to people, which is quite relevant to my status as a dj.
Describe the color red or blue or green to somebody who’s blind.
Blue is the sea but it is also the sky.Β Red is fire but is passion.Β Green is nature and her long arms that embrace us.
