Description
The scarab was an extremely popular symbol in Ancient Egyptian art. It is believed to represent the sun god, Ra. The ancient Egyptians believed that the scarab that rolled its ball of dung in the desert reflected the sun’s journey across the sky from day to night. It therefore became a symbol of renewal and rebirth. Obsidian was first used from the Early Dynastic period for amulets and continued to be used later for scarabs.
